Key Stage 4

1st: Bobby, Cranford Community College, Cranford

This painting is magnificent because there is so much detail and colour. It shows you what the Romany culture is about. The painting is family orientated, they love animals, and they enjoy playing music and dancing. This picture makes me feel at home because it sums up my culture; it also teaches you about being a Traveller.

The key feature of travelling is to see the horses, this focuses on this. The painting also includes what type of events that we celebrate. Overall I think that this painting is all about having fun and being proud of who you are.

‘Family values – pride in the culture, love and respect for the GRT horse’ Jess

2nd: Emma, Cranford Community College, Cranford

This painting is very bright and colourful; it’s as if the painter is trying to tell you about our culture. It looks like there is a big festival happening as it shows you traditional events such as: washing horses in the river, story telling, people playing musical instruments and it shows you the religious side of our culture. The painting focuses on love and laughter this makes the painting very meaningful to us Travellers as it outlines our culture in detail. Overall I think this painting is eye-catching and it brings out the most important things about being a Traveller.

‘Importance of being a Traveller – very nicely put.’ Jess

3rd: Andy, St. Alfred’s College, Newton-le-Willows

The poster is colourful and if has lots to show celebrations of Traveller events. I like the Appleby scene because it reminds me of the time you visit in June and can imagine how cool the water seems for the horses. And I like seeing the old wagons by the new trailers.

‘Sees celebrating the old and the new.’ Jess
